Ryan is a 15-year veteran of the Chicago improv and storefront theater scene. He has primarily improvised at iO and Annoyance Theaters, and has performed and taught workshops at numerous festivals and universities around the country with his groups Revolver and Pudding-Thank-You. His acting credits include productions at Steppenwolf Theater's "Next Up" series, TimeLine Theater, Collaboraction, Strawdog, and Wildclaw Theater. He has a MFA in playwriting from Ohio University, where he also taught playwriting and theater classes.
Ryan Patrick Kelly is the son of a Navy Corpsman, grandson to a Merchant Marine, and great-grandson to a Master Shipbuilder. His love of the sea ended when he nearly drowned to death gargling saltwater (for a sore throat) as a child. Currently his acting/writing career has been put on hiatus due to supplemental income from tech work and his ever growing concerns that the camera lens may, indeed, steal one's soul. His world class collections of obsolete movie quotes and song lyrics are currently being held in the frontal lobe and will, hopefully, never be on display to the public. He hates cats and those who "farmer blow" in public or private.
Ryan Patrick Shanahan was born in a poor working class area of Cheverly, MD. Ryan was an avid hockey player growing up. He started playing at 7 years old and played competitively until having major surgery at the age of 17 which prevented him from pursuing hockey beyond high school. At Florida State Ryan dominated student films. In two years, he was cast in over 20 films and was thee actor to cast. He also worked very closely with and was mentored by Mark Medoff. At Florida State Ryan became serious about his studies. He was on the dean's list or honor roll every semester while at FSU. Upon graduating Ryan had to choose between acting and management. He was being recruited by multiple companies and ultimately chose to go down the business road. He managed with a few companies before opening his own in Denver, Colorado with $1,700. Ryan quickly excelled in the world of business pushing his company passed $500,000 in revenue in only its second year. By the third year, Ryan was making a handsome income which illuminated more and more the fact that business wasn't in his heart the way acting was. In November of 2014, after 10 years of managing and running business, Ryan closed his company to pursue acting full-time. By June of 2015, Ryan had tied up all loose ends from his previous career and business and was able to commit full-time to acting. He immediately experienced success getting cast as a principal in the television series Saints Vs Scoundrels as Thomas More. In 2015, Ryan stayed busy booking commercials and principal roles on a variety of television series. In 2016, Ryan had picked up more momentum and was cast as the lead of a Lifetime feature to be released in the Summer of 2017. While auditioning and working on current projects, Ryan stays busy practicing and studying with Marta DuBois and Suzanne DeLaurentiis in intensive workshop's in Hollywood. If there is free time you can find Ryan surfing, at the gym, studying acting, or somewhere outdoors enjoying life's beauties filling his coffer and deepening his well to be the strongest actor he can be. Ryan continues to apply what he's learned through life experience and business to his acting career. He's excited to be a late Hollywood bloomer fueling his career with discipline, dedication, learning, resilience, humility, and gratitude.
